It takes a great deal of time and patience to make, because after harvesting and sorting the rushes, they have to be dyed, then left to dry, before being woven by hand for two days. A real living piece, this carpet evolves over time.
Its unique patterns are bordered by small black fringes that form the frame of the carpet. The Mahila carpet is meticulously made by women in their own homes, on the loom located under the stilts of their house. Working at home allows them to give free rein to their creativity and talent.
